Guys,
I've been putting off posting this for a while now, but I feel that it's high time that everyone out there was fully clued in as to what, exactly, happened to bring CV and CG down. I also want to stress, for those of you who think otherwise, that I am NOT CV's webmisstress and I never was. When it comes to how the web actually works, I am totally and utterly clueless. With that in mind, please don't be surprised if some of this stuff doesn't make sense. I'm doing my best to explain it as clearly as possible... So here goes:
Ok, first, I understand your frustration, and I share it, I really do. There does seem to be some confusion here though about what actually happened to CV/CG to cause the collapse and about what the current state of the site is, so I will try to lay it out in order, just so everyone knows what's what.
CV went down first because we went over our file storage limit on our old server and, rather than dealing with that in any normal, sensible way, the server admins (NOT the CV staff) began randomly deleting files, which included our index file, killing the site, effectively anyway. We don't know why on earth they would have done that, but they did it all the same. Thankfully they didn't touch the database, so no data in the database was lost, but without the index page, it couldn't be displayed. Amura, our webmisstress, began trying to sort it out and, when that failed, she started looking for a new server - one with more helpful staff.
Next thing that happened was our fanart server, which was hosted on another system entirely, went down with no explanation - we think that the company who ran it went bust or something, but we were never sure. We lost some stuff there, but not that much. Between us, we have about 90% of the pics/vids that were on the fanart server backed up, so they can and will return - so please don't panic.
Third, finding the situation on the old server hopeless, Amura secured another one and transferred our domain names across, posting a message that the site would be back soon (you've all seen it). The plan was for her to transfer the sites across, CG first and then CV. I want to stress here that CG was UNDAMAGED by the server issue. The ONLY reason that it went down was because it was impossible (apparently) to leave it up and running while the domains moved.
Anyway, the initial plan was for the move to take only a few days, Amura assured us she could do this, no problem, and we took her at her word, but alas, her boss seems to have had other ideas. Apparently, about the same time she was in the middle of the move, she became BURIED under work. Extra projects, deadlines, training courses, by all accounts shes been run ragged for months now - which is sad and, alas, it doesn't leave her much time for working on CV/CG. At present, she tells us that she is half way between moving the back end databases for CV and CG across to the new server, but its slow going, much slower than she had hoped, due to the size of the database and the limit on how much can be shuffled at a time.
So why can't anyone else do it? Well, there are a few issues there. First, since the domains moved, the only way to access the old server is through Amura's cpanel access. This is fine for her, but she cannot let anyone else use it as she is the webmiss for several sites and has signed privacy agreements etc which are tying her hands. In theory there is nothing stopping her from letting others get access to the new server, but that would be pretty pointless as there is nothing (or nothing complete) on that server. All that's there is a portion of CG's database and some files, so there would be little of value for anyone to do. There is also the problem of people working at crossed purposes. The databases are pretty fragile when split up like this, and it would be only too easy to mess things up. I think that's why Amura wanted to do it all herself, so as to not have people treading on each others' toes.
So, to sum up, the databases for both sites are intact, meaning that the content (or most of it in CV's case) are also intact but, without Amura finding time to get things going, there is nothing that I, or anyone can do to expedite matters.
My apologies for the long post, but I wanted to get it all straight.
I'll keep you posted,
Raffy

I know it's been ages since I last updated my LJ... what can I say? RL is a real pain in the a$$ sometimes.

I mean, come on!

It was KINKY, yet uber sweet at the same time.
I just hope i won't bleed too much, and that swelling is gone before GoF comes out.
